Maker Party on Road

Standard

Hopefully, you were aware about “Maker Party on Road” event during official maker party 2015 season. After the event I thought I would definitely share our lots of experience, fun with rest of the world. So I put it to my to-do list. Yeah, I got some time today to write this blog…….

First of all, what is “Maker party on road” ? it sounds like crazy nah!!! Yeah! first time in the world also. It’s all about just learning , making , instant sharing on road with pedestrians and travelers.

This year, when official “Maker Party” kicks off, we got to know that this year’s Maker Party is all about teaching others how to “Read”, “Write” and “Participate”, So initially, I thought this we may do something new according to this year Maker Party’s theme. Then I chalked a plan about this event, then shared this plan with other community members at our first maker party of 2015 in our town. Everyone not only just showed their interested, but also they given how to better this event and how the event would be run, what would be the probable activities. That day we finalized initial plan.

Next thing why we have chosen the road. We know that we can meet different types of people who are waking on the road, may be they would be Software developer, chaiwala, rikhsawala, police, student, IT professional, small business man etc, sharing with them about event idea, what we are going to do here etc. Actually, it’s really difficult to get people like chaiwala, rikhsawala, police etc  in house event except IT professional and Students . As well as we can teach the people in crowd, that was also my longtime desire, besides that was great enjoyment of when teaching .

Then I started digging into maker party resources. And Yeah, the activities were listed for the event.

Next thing was making some materials for the events like making some cards for learning web mechanics, web literacy. Then printed HTML puzzle box ( Thanks Yofie for bringing this HTML puzzle box initiative), made some quiz questions for participation etc.

At last the day 29 July, 2015 was come. There was heavy rainfall in the morning that totally made worst civil life condition in the city. So we thought we could not run the event. But after 1 p.m, by the grace of God we got pleasant weather for next 4 hours. It made us so so lucky. Special thanks given to SUN.

Our activities were there WEB LITERACY,  WEB PRIVACY,  MAKING COOL STUFF,  FUN & GAMES.

How these activities suites this year maker party’s theme. We may think this way

  • Read WEB LITERACY,WEB PRIVACY and know what is it.—- under “Read” section
  • Make something cool stuffs by webmaker app and thimble  —- under “Write” section
  • Join us at Fun and Games —– under “Participation” section

Is not it ???????

So I created  a pathway how we can approach the people to come and join us.

(In future, if you are interested to host “Maker Party on Road” , please check it out this  presentations )

Then we started approaching people to join us by reading, writing, participating. Here we played our roll as a teacher by giving them cards related to web mechanics, web literacy.

Then we asked them to provide bad password to make one collage of bad password. Also we asked them some ideas how anyone can make strong password. Then we teach them about their privacy when they surf internet as well as, by what are ways they can save their identity when using internet.

They we showed people about webmaker app, how they can make some thing cool stuffs there and share instantly. Also we showed them thimble for making their own webpage and x-ray goggles for hacking favorite website.

Some people chose the “Fun and Games” from our activities. For that case,  we offered them “HTML” puzzle box to learn basic HTML tag. Also we offered HTML quiz, where we had a set question basic questions, True/False, fill in the blanks, output of the code etc.

So here, we were five people including me. I trained them first how they would conduct this event while I shoot the video and taking pictures of all. Yes Sometimes I also joined in the conversion with participants.

Then we took a group photo and took foot steps towards our home happily. Because the event was organized successfully. We completed our goal as well as our dream.

Firefox OS App Days in Mukti’14

Standard

We all know that “Firefox OS anticipates your needs, adapts to every situation and instantly delivers the information you want.It gives you the power to live every moment to its fullest and participate in a better world.” We want more apps on this mobile operating system.

That’s why I think that we need one Firefox OS App Days in our Mozilla Durgapur community, one of the fastest growing mozilla community in Durgapur. I was just wondering  a right place for that ………….

_DSC7171

One day, I got a invitation letter from Mukti 2014 for organizing one mozilla event there. Let me tell a brief about Mukti 2014,  the 9th edition of NITDGP’s Annual Technical Symposium on Open Source, MUKTI 2014 from the 31st of January to the 2nd of February, 2014,The GNU/Linux Users’ Group, NIT Durgapur was established in 2003 by a bunch of FOSS enthusiasts with the objective of spreading awareness about the world of Free and Open Source Softwares and popularising their use in the campus.MUKTI, the only FOSS Festival of Eastern India, is a three-day meet at NIT Durgapur where we celebrate the freedom of Open Source. Owing to the success attained by it in recent years, it attracts a lot of participation and the number just keeps growing with each passing year. The intense atmosphere of competition is doubled up with Talks and Workshops by few of the brightest and most active minds in the Indian Open Source community.

In my word ” this is the only one foss event where we meet with many opensource guys.” That’s why I really like this this event.

I took decision that this was the right place for Firefox OS App Days. Then I was arranged all those stuffs which were really needed for this event with the coordination of NIT guys.Check out the event page : mzl.la/1etktoM

Now, I am going tell about the actual scenario of this event. Here , we got 150+ participants for attending this event . In this event , we had 6 speakers. This event was for two days. They gave separate sessions
